LR Iron Gate

Week 7.

With so many schedule changes in the last few weeks, this report will encompass weeks six and seven at Iron Gate.

Leelo had Iron Gate only on Wednesday during the sixth week. Play on this day was considerably independent. Leelo observed his peers entering the school and during play, however, didn’t join them as he usually does. Leelo seemed very energized and found it difficult to settle in his play.

Within these last two weeks, Leelo has discovered the sensory table – rice and spiders. This has been a huge success, and helps Leelo to calm and regain focus. Prompts are needed to pour the rice and dig for the spiders. Leelo likes the feel of the rice falling through his fingers.

Outdoor play has moved to the tire swing. This is a fabulous activity that not only helps with Leelo’s trunk strengthen, but is very social. The children are sitting on this in groups of three, one particular day it was Leelo, Ellie and Andreth. Everyone is giggling and enjoying themselves and Leelo is very interested in Ellie’s and Andreth’s faces; watching them intently.  At one point Leelo and Andreth were imitating each other’s squeaks and squeals, taking it in turn to make a noise and have the other copy.

The climbing structures, both indoor and out are very attractive to Leelo. It is here where we have had some great peer interaction. Leelo, Ellie and Spence played inside for over 20 minutes on the 25th. Asking each other to move, hurry up, and following one another across the ladder. At one point Ellie and Spence pretended to be snakes that would “eat” Leelo if he touched the ground when walking across the structure. Leelo displayed eye contact and listened to his peers with minimal prompts during this activity.
