Leelo’s Team
Meeting Minutes: 11/1/04
- Family Observations: Squid shared
3 pieces of cool and exciting news, and Leelo’s Grandma shared another:
ü
Leelo has taught himself how to pop bubbles by clapping them between his
hands (a rather cool eye-hand coordination, attention span/focus
challenge);
ü
When Leelo was snuggled up in a cozy early daylight savings time morning
moment, Squid asked him “what’s daddy doing?” and Leelo spontaneously answered
“Daddy’s sleeping”!!!
ü
Leelo is now an extra bit clingy with Squid around strangers- very
appropriate and typical.
ü
Leelo’s Grandma said this weekend at the Halloween gathering, when
another child was standing in his way Leelo told him “Move” and the other child
did!
- New tasks:
ü
block imitation: use the following sequence: colored wooden 3- blocks,
then duplos 3 blocks, then other blocks (water blocks?); then start 4 block
imitation with colored wooden blocks;
ü
washing hands: Leelo doing well at going to sink, turning water on and
off, putting hands under water; fade prompts on these parts of sequence;
continue direct instruction on get soap and dry hands (try having him clap
hands on towel); incorporate wet/dry discrimination when drying hands (e.g.
have Leelo look at hands and say whether they are wet/dry. If wet, use towel more- thank you Leelo’s
Grandma).
ü
Making requests: Continue
placing things out of reach; Therapists and Family all agree- requests MUST be
comprehensible to a stranger !!!
ü
Play with baby doll: to reduce prompt dependence, use more general directions
e.g. “Play with baby” “give the baby some” “the baby is hungry. Help her/him”, etc. Record Leelo’s spontaneous appropriate play
actions on sheet. Also, if prompting
directly, use 2 step actions (e.g. feed the baby and kiss the baby).
ü
Putting on pyjamas: Squid will provide pyjamas for therapists to
practice: once a day have Leelo take off all clothes and put on pyjamas. Later, have him take off pyjamas and put on
clothes. Goal is to increase
independence, so limit prompting to only what is necessary.
- Toileting: If Leelo strips down to go poo
before bed, Squid will sit him on the potty for a while 15 min to ½
hour). This will work best if
Leelo typically has to go (pee or poo) at this time. Keep us posted. Team agrees that it is too early to start
Leelo using potty at Iron Gate. We will raise this again in a month
or two. Toileting data looks
consistent: mostly peeing in
potty with occasional accidents each week. Continue with food reinforcers as i
- “yes yes yes”: Leelo is not
saying this as much; however, he is repeating other types of language,
such as greetings, and also overgeneralizing some phrases (“Let me
go”). Whenever possible, when you
know what Leelo is trying to say, cut him off before he uses the
inappropriate/repeated phrases, and model the correct phrase. (Very tricky, as he speaks quickly…
- NLP: Therapists agreed that on many days Leelo will
only imitate phrases in NLP and not use novel spontaneous language; the team brainstormed activities and
materials in which Leelo tends to use a lot of spontaneous language, and
decided to try NLP on these activities, including: Parachute, Trampoline;
tire swing; tunnel; bubbles; rice; “guys”
- Iron Gate: Leelo is having beginning social interactive play with
peers, including responding to their directions, taking turns making silly
noises, and playing together and watching them on the tire swing. He is consistently sitting during the
entire circle time.
- Play Group: Going very nicely this past
month; Leelo has begun watching/observing Iz and Danielle, and is
following their directions in the context of a game; Leelo has also participated in entire
25 minute play group with only 1 break- which all of the children enjoy
together.
- Fall/winter holiday schedules, other changes: Iron Gate
closed Thursday and Friday November 25 and 26; and for 2 weeks during
Winter Vacation. Leelo is around
and available for therapy throughout Winter holiday. Keep the Rosenbergs posted on work and
vacation plans.
- Other: Supervisor Andil had a baby girl a week ago. Chip Older from Rainbow Center will be
covering for Quality Assurance.
- Next meeting scheduled for: Monday
November 15 at 12:30
